Q: If you didn’t have the contacts you have now, would you still choose this career path (audio engineering)?

A: Absolutely. The music industry has been calling to me since I was a crappy 18 year old college disc jockey. No matter what else I’ve done in my life career-wise, it’s always been in the background, calling my name. I’m part of it, whether I like it or not. Whether I act on it or not, it will always be a siren song to me.
So, why the fuck not? I honestly have no idea what else I’d want to do.

It’s always baffling how so very many women can hate my guts without even knowing me. Believe me, there are plenty of people who know me and hate me, and that’s okay. You don’t live as long as I have without making a few enemies.

But over a band? Please, they are nice to everybody, including you (I know this because I was there and I saw it). And getting people to friend me on Facebook with the intent on spying, getting “the goods” on the band that you might otherwise miss? Well, let me tell you, if I know anything about them that you don’t, I can guarantee that I am going to keep it that way. I am a relatively private person for all my blustering bitchiness on Facebook. I know that whatever is told to me by the boys is in strictest confidence, and I won’t betray that trust for you.

Finally, I am really sorry you feel the need to compete with me. I was unaware that this was a competition, and even if it was, I would still win. Why? Because you’re not even playing in the same league as me. You’ll never be as calm, erudite, intelligent, witty and sexy as I am, so really honey, don’t knock yourself out over it. I’m a rare gem, this I know. Arrogant and conceited? No, just sure of myself and my place, and I threw away those insecurities you suffer from long ago.

So if you see me at a concert? Please leave me alone. I won’t talk to you after your transgression. I simply will go on acting as if you didn’t exist. Because to me, you don’t. I’ll meet more people at the shows who aren’t silly fools.

““Are you just some kind of Superfan?””

- So the question that kept getting asked of me backstage in Rochester was, “Are you just some kind of Superfan?”
Those of you who know me know that this type of question/categorizing totally irritates the shit out of me. That and the “groupie” question.
Can’t a girl be friends with the band, and want to fly out to their first gig of the tour, help them kick it off in style, provide a familiar face on the front row? Why do I have to be “Superfan” or “groupie”?
I believe I will always be seeking the answer to this. And I’ll keep being categorized unfairly in the future. But you really can just be friends with the band. And a girl.

It’s been relatively easy transitioning to a vegan diet. I’ve already lost a little weight and dropped a jeans size without feeling deprived. I just have had to make adjustments and choices. And a little reading about what went into that food I was eating sure helped a lot. I don’t crave ice cream, that’s for sure!
It’s not a diet for everyone; I also didn’t do it because I hate omnivores or want to save all the animals. I did it purely for health reasons. I was tired of feeling run down all the time, and thought that a change would help. A thoughtful way of eating, instead of just consuming what was convenient at the time. When assessing my diet, I found that I was eating tons of junky take out! That has also ceased, and I couldn’t be happier.
So far, so veggie. I’ll keep you posted. xo

I’d like to thank Nick and Mike, the sound engineers for Hoobastank, for being very cool.
I, myself, am studying Audio Engineering, a field that is male-dominated. But you know what? The men I have met that do this work are far more accepting and welcoming of me than the women I’ve tried to meet. Maybe the ladies have a bit of a chip on their shoulders?
But anyway, thank you guys for being super nice and taking time to take me seriously. I won’t forget you.

Being fabulous can be lonely sometimes. Ah well. The price I will pay.

Interesting, on this first day of the Spring semester, that my first class would go so wrong. Prof had the flu, and all of our computers needed a Java update to run the lessons. So no lesson! That just means twice as much Wednesday.
My first day vegan is going well; had a soy latte and went shopping for groceries. Felt very healthy with my vegan blueberry muffin and green juice. One day at a time.
Oh well, just sitting here freezing, waiting for Math class and yelling at the damn cats.
